Route 1

On the 25th km of the road from Serres to Promachonas, first stop: Sidirokastro, a semi-urban center of 6,000 inhabitants. Here, visitors will find the Tsartsidis Folklore Museum (tel. +302323022307), the Monastery of Kyrillos and Iouliti (tel. +302323022395), the rocks that remind visitors of Meteora, the valley of the Krousovitis river (mainly in the summer) etc.

7 km further north we come across Thermopigi, with its Paleontological Museum (tel. +306978367921, 2323081106), the exhibits of which cause great admiration, and the Thermal Baths (tel. +302323022422).

Continuing to Promachonas, on a detour of the road, high up on the hill, Fort Roupel (tel. +302321095100) stands proudly. Visiting the historic Fort and being guided in its meandering galleries, strongly evokes the modern-day historical memory, but also constitutes a source of national pride.

At the end of the road, we encounter the Border Station of Promachonas at the border with Bulgaria, an ideal place for a coffee or refreshment break.

East of Promachonas, we reach Aggistro with its famous Thermal Baths (tel. +302323041420). Enjoy them, there on the border of nature with the dream and, then, choose to have lunch at a local tavern or at the fish farm of Aggistro for fresh trout that you can catch yourself!

After lunch, return to Serres for evening shopping!
