Route 3

The first osmosis in this itinerary is of a cultural nature, with the first stop being Ancient Amphipolis (Archaeological Museum tel. +302322032474). Awe and admiration before the Kasta Tumulus, the Lion of Amphipolis, the Ancient Bridge, the Northern Wall and the entire Archaeological Park, as well as the Archaeological Museum. In Amphipolis you will come into contact with the intangible cultural heritage of the place, since it is the area where “The Silk Road” and the route “In the Footsteps of the Apostle Paul” intersect.

Next stop - a chance for a coffee in the village square - the village of Proti, the birthplace of Konstantinos Karamanlis, where the museum residence of the family is situated.

The Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissa (tel. +302510516581) even further east, up high on Mount Paggaio, with its long history and its important role during the Turkish rule, is waiting to welcome you in a wonderful verdant environment.

Last stop at the Cave of Alistrati (tel. +302324082045) for the final wonderful feeling you get from this wonder of nature. One of the most important caves in Greece and the Balkans, with fascinating stalactite and stalagmite formations. Don’t miss out on the robotic tour!

At the Aggitis River Gorge, 500 m from the Cave, you can tour on foot or by train. You can even try the rafting experience, by appointment only at tel. +30321350450, +302321350375.

There are also lots of taverns where you can dine in the area, enjoying the local delicacies before returning to Serres.
