Town of Sidirokastro

Built amphitheatrically, at the foot of the Issari hill, at the top of which dominates the homonymous Byzantine castle of the 6th century, the town of Sidirokastro is famous for its thermal baths.

The ascent to the top of the hill offers visitors stunning panoramic views of the town of Sidirokastro and the plain of Serres. At the same time, it gives them the opportunity to explore the parts of the castle that still survive - fortification walls, semi-circular towers, the traces of a church and a cistern for water storage; a real journey through time!

In Sidirokastro there are excellent taverns, restaurants and cafés, as well as hotels and guesthouses that are open all year round.

Sidirokastro owes its name to the existence of the castle of Issari, since it is a hellenized form of its old name, “Demir Issar”, which in Turkish means “Iron Castle”!
