Mount Lailias
Mount Lailias
“...a place with a glorious climate, a true, enchanting paradise, second to no other.”
Evligia Tselembi, renowned Turkish chronographer and traveller

Wild and imposing, but, at the same time, beautiful and hospitable, Mount Lailias - included in the European Ecological Network of Sites “Natura 2000” - is a stunning destination, for all seasons. White and snow-capped in winter, in spring and autumn it turns into a colorful natural paradise, while in the summer it becomes a cool, green oasis.

Activities in the area of Lailias
In the forest of Lailias there are 4 multi-purpose routes, for: hiking, mountain biking and endurance skiing, while part of the European Paths E4 and E6 traverses the area.
The slopes of the peaks of Lailias, covered with beech and mountain pine forests, which are protected by the NATURA 2000 program, also offer many alternative opportunities for camping, winter sports and climbing.

At the “Olympia” site, at an altitude of 1500 m, just 3 km from the Ski Center and 24 km from the city of Serres, you can find a wonderful Shelter for the forest’s visitors, which is operated by the Mountaineering Association of Serres.
The Shelter is the starting point for many outdoor activities, such as:
» Cross country skiing - mountaineering on a 10 km track
» Mountain bike trails
» Ice climbing on a specially designed rock field
» Climbing in a field (11 secured routes on rocks 5 minutes from the Shelter)
» Mountain games for children
» Orienteering
» Hiking - mountaineering on marked trails
» Stargazing
(For most of the above activities you can contact the Team “Serres Action”: http://serresaction.gr)

The Shelter features guesthouses, living rooms with a fireplace, a comfortable dining area and a large parking area. It remains open every Friday-Saturday-Sunday, as well as on all public holidays.

According to the most famous one, Katigka, the beautiful daughter of the chief shepherd, ended her life by falling from the top of a rock that was subsequently named after her, because she didn’t want to marry a Muslim. As the air whistles through the branches of the beech trees, it is said that you can still hear her heartbreaking sobs. The path leading to this spot, as well as the view from “Katigka’s Rock”, are among the most beautiful and picturesque on Lailias.</p>

Lailias Ski Center

Lailias Ski Center is located in a beautiful forest of beech and pine trees, at an altitude of 1,600 m, at a distance of 27 km from the city of Serres. The Ski Center features a controlled downhill ski piste of 1,000 m, which is served by a Ski Lift 900 m long with a capacity of 800 skiers per day climbing to “Ali Baba” top, as well as a floodlit piste suitable for night skiing.
At the starting point of the piste there are ski equipment rentals for non-organized amateur skiers. For beginners, there are private training schools at the ski resort with experienced ski instructors. For the extreme skiers, there are special pistes, while the biathlon trail is considered to be one of the best in Greece.
